I'm a noob and really don't know where to look anymore.
Since a few days I have an 3Dconnect ATI Radeon 9600 pro and after installing de linux ati drivers my X does work. Everything works fine at first sight, xawtv in small mode works fine and even the game enemy territory does work. However when I put xawtv on full screen he gives up on me.
Xawtv says while starting up in an terminal that dga mode is not supported bij the X server, so I initialised dga and started the x again. When opening xawtv my monitor turned off and logging out or go to init 3 does not help to get my monitor on again..... only a reboot..... By the way I had tried several XF86 configs and nothing worked, the game does work whatever I do with the X server .....??!!
So here are some details about my machine and configuration and maybe someone knows what to do.

And you think that a P4 does not have this problem?! Itīs not the processor that gives me the problems... of course a P4 gives me more power, but I tested the card within windows and it works fine. Besides that, I did an upgrade from a really old card so itīs for me a great improvement, of course the next item I will upgrade is my motherboard and processor but as a student you have to make priorities
But nevertheless your answer is then even worse than my question, because it gives me no answer. And brings me not one step more to the solution.
I had more or less the same problems with a Celeron 1700 and a Radeon 9100 for ages pulling my hair out its somthing to do the the ATI drivers and Xawtv I reakon (Because when I installed them thats when it started.
In the end I tried some other TV apps and would highly recommend TVtime... I installed it and since havenīt had any problems watching tv
Tell me how you get on... but I was SOOOOOO frustrated by this for ages!! The only crap thing is I think there is a version of Xawtv. Xawdecode?? That you can use to decode certain types of UHF broadcast tv channels here, like (Canal + here) I havenīt seen any others that do that... who knows I spose there must be others.
i got the same problem... just after I managed to get the radeon driver working propeely in X, my monitor died when I ran xawtv...
the only resolution for me was disabling fglrx module.... but I want my radeon performance.... srew this...
