Xampp on Mandrake 9.1

Hi,
I tried to install Xammp on a mandrake Linux 9.1 box: apparently this went ok. However when I try to start it with 'lampp start', it tells me that the file lampp does not exist, though it is physically there. Any thoughts?
Thank you for any suggestions (in fact I just want MySQL to get running on this old box...).

you could try to run /opt/lampp/lampp start (if you've installed it under /opt/)
