Angry X Server Problem


I install Linux mandrake 9.0 on a P4 Pc with S3 Graphics Prosavage DDR VGA chipset...but am having problem with the X running. I got the error message:
"execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 2)
giving up
xinit: no such file or directory (errno 2)
Unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno3)
server error

Can anyone pls help.

It sounds like xinit isn't in your PATH environment variable. Try:
find / -name xinit

Then add the path that xinit resides in to the PATH variable in your profile script.

"rm -rf /" a terrible thing for a linux newbie to try.

i have a same problem now...
here which one i have to set for PATH.

[root@localhost root]# find / -name xinit
/etc/X11/xinit
/root/Desktop/Trash/xorg/xc/programs/xinit
/usr/X11R6/bin/xinit
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit
[root@localhost root]#


[root@localhost root]# startx -- :2
execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 13)
xinit: Server error.
[root@localhost root]# startx -- :3
execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 13)
xinit: Server error.
[root@localhost root]#

Moved to Linux-Software, because it's a software-related problem.

Check if you have /etc/X11/X file. What's its size?
