Wiping hard drive with dban on Linux Lite 2 OS?

I have Linux Lite installed and have burned dban on a CD.
I've tried to run dban on start up (F2 etc) but get a message saying "no burners installed".
Why is this and how can I solve it? I've tried installing XBURN butnothing happens.
ps - I thought burning was the process of creating a disc with something on it, which I have already done.

For what it is worth, I use F12 to display the BIOS-boot menu. Or is this an error of dban?

john9159,

Welcome to LQ.

In order to get Xfburn working you may first need to go into Terminal and installed Restricted Extras:

Code:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
Why do you need to use DBAN in particular?

Could you not download and burn a gParted .iso onto a disk from:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/gparted/

If on the other hand you are trying to totally wipe a disk securely then you need something other than DBAN.
