wineX sound problems

Hey~

I just installed wineX and configured it properly (so far as I know).

My first, and admittedly rather ambitious goal is to install half-life with wineX. I mounted the half-life cd, and the install started off fine. But when half-life tried to test my sound card by playing a .wav file everything stopped (nothing happened, the screen just stayed the same).

I checked the xterm I started hl in, and here are the messages I get:

err:wave:OSS_OpenDevice Can't set format to 8 (16)
err:wave:OSS_OpenDevice Can't set sample_rate to 48000 (11025)

I used esd to find out that my sounds card is supposed to run at 48 khz in 16 bit stereo. I assume that wineX isn't detecting the settings properly. Can you help me get this stuff working???

I am having the same problem.

I am trying to install Half-Life with WineX and I get the following error when the SETUP.EXE tries to test my sound.

Code:

Music from Xmms works fine! I get this message when I use the command 'esd' though.

Code:

unsupported playback rate: 44100 
Audio device open for 44.1Khz, stereo, 16bit failed 
Trying 44.1Khz, 8bit stereo. 
unsupported sound format: 32 
Audio device open for 44.1Khz, stereo, 8bit failed 
Trying 48Khz, 16bit stereo.

I am running a 2.4.20 kernel and have SiS7012 On-board sound.

Please help!
