wine wont work..weird error

I downloaded Wine-20040615-i686-S10nodebug.tgz (for slackware). But it refuses to work. when I try wine-ing something it gives me a weird error. here's the output:

akudewan@ranjan404:~$ wine /mnt/c/WINDOWS/system32/notepad.exe
wine: creating configuration directory '/home/akudewan/.wine'...
err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"x11drv.dll": libXxf86dga.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Could not load graphics driver 'x11drv'
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\windows\\rundll32.exe" failed, status c0000142
wine: wineprefixcreate failed while creating '/home/akudewan/.wine'.
akudewan@ranjan404:~$ wineserver: could not save registry branch to /home/akudewan/.wine-pUZbCG/system.reg : No such file or directory
wineserver: could not save registry branch to /home/akudewan/.wine-pUZbCG/userdef.reg : No such file or directory
wineserver: could not save registry branch to /home/akudewan/.wine-pUZbCG/user.reg : No such file or directory

I cant make sense out of this. Can anyone help??

Edit: Also tried this version, but same problem: Wine-20040615-i686-S10.tgz

70 views and no replies!!! phooey!!

I downloaded the wine source and installed it. Now whenever I try to wine something, there is a stupid 'Font metrics -percentage- done' thing that progresses, and in the end I get the debug prompt.

When I wine something as root, I get this error:
root@ranjan404:/mnt/c/WINDOWS/system32# wine notepad.exe
wine: creating configuration directory '/root/.wine'...

a) The slackpacks are broken, don't use them
b) Don't run programs from a native wIndows drive. Copy or move them into one of your Linux directories - otherwise a bunch of Windows XP native DLLs will be loaded and things blow up big time.

I myself am still getting the err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization Im running slack 9.1 kernel 2.4.23 (I of course got the right pakcage, not s10 s9 that was the first thing I checked) Ive removed and installed multiple times gone through a few irc channels and have yet to find out why I cant get wine to run correctly and I know many of the programs (cough games) have been run with no problems (such as starcraft) so Im at a loss on why I still get that error.

try "export WINEDLLOVERRIDES=msvcrt=b" in the shell before you run wine.

./configure
well that doesnt work (I am using slack 9.1 and the compat package) well I ignorently try make and make depend and that doesnt work (and probely shouldnt correct?) so now Im completely confused on setting it up (I have googled many pages and read quite a few howtos faqs etc and Im just not understanding apparently) so anybody think they can help out?
