Wine trouble - Menu bars blank (same happens in install dialog boxes)

Please pardon my newbie-ness... I think I RTFM, but haven't found an answer yet...

I'm trying to install wine on my RH 9 dual boot laptop (2.4.20-30.9). I've installed a couple of versions, tried sidenet and winetools. Even though the install appears to work, I don't have any menu items in any programs running in wine.

Wine package installs with no apparent issues, but when I open IE or whatever in it, the menu bar has no items in it. There are a bunch of underscores that appear to go with the keyboard shortcuts, though. Likewise, the text within many windows doesn't appear, but all pictures do (e.g. on MSN, the text won't be there, but the graphics and their text will be.)

This carries forward to Winetools (a bunch of tildes but no text) and to IE install dialog boxes in Sidenet (OK and Yes/No choices are there, but no info to determine what you're saying Y or N to...)

Any ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I think your problem may be related to fonts. Using winetools, you should be able to download microsoft fonts using the base setup menu item. I think that should sort you out. (touch wood ;-) )

Thanks, cvt, but it still doesn't work...

.... winetools doesn't have any text in it. The heading shows the wine glasses and the main title, but every line below that looks like this

~

~

Then there's an OK and Cancel buttons at the bottom. Accordingly, I can't tell which item would do fonts or anything else for that matter...

Any other ideas?
