How come i hear about all these people getting windows programs to work with wine and i cant get a single one to work. wheneve ri try to install something it just freezes. and i tried the cvs version of winex and that wouldnt even compile right.
getting wine to work the suggested way, well, takes a lot of work. i really can't say more than that. i tried getting wine to work with a fake c: drive and i had the same problems as you. i finally said fsck that and just used my existing windows install and installed programs and that's worked out fine for me. i mean, that's not the suggested way to run wine and it might not even work if you're using a version of windows with ntfs support. but if you're using a 9X based windows version, you can most definately try to use wine with your existing windows partitions. the only other changes that i've made were to some group changes and mount default permissions changes with umask for security issues regarding my windows partitions because i'm pretty paranoid. anyway i guess it depends on your windows setup and which of the possible ways to configure wine that you choose.
then you just make something wrong for installing always read the howtos for the programs those can be found here : http://www.winehq.com/ , http://frankscorner.org/
there are also some good how tos on wine installing read them and get started
I agree with doralsoral. I also tried to run several Windows programs but only managed to run Irfanview (which is useless in Linux because Linux has much better image viewers) and mp3gain which is a dos based program which runs in the command prompt. Unfortunately I have a Windows2000 installation on NTFS so I cannot use wine with that.
i had a rough time installing it my first time, and didnt understand it. but once i actualy took the time and didnt just want it to work right out of the package i got it to work.. as long as you read everything carfully and do everything it says you will get it working in a matter of minutes. just take your time. i havnt got games to work. but i havnt really worked hard at it yet. and i have got it to load stuff like FlashFXP etc... small things. hope this at least makes you want to try again.
