Well, don't know where Winamp installed but if it's in your path then

"wine winamp" from terminal is a good place to start.

you could try:
whereis winamp to get the path

I found winamp and tried to run it but it seems to crash out right when it loads part of the UI. Any suggestions on how to get it to run?

Is there not a native Linux application that would do what you need in winamp?

I need to play MP3's and as far as I can tell no program will support it anymore because of software patents. RealPlayer10 and Helix wont play them, they play but i get no sound. And XMMS doesnt support it anymore and no others that came pre installed will support it either. I know of no other way to play MP3's other than using Winamp since i see some people have gotten it to work under Linux. And I wouldnt mind being able to make use of the online TV feature of Winamp also.

Just install MP3 support for Fedora. Its Fedora that doesnt have support, not Linux.

A quick google would have solved your problem:

I always try google first but i couldnt find anything on it. I had been using Redhat 8 so assumed Fedora should have it. Thanks for the link though.

I installed the MP3 plugin but still I cant play MP3's in any of my players. I see that RealPlayer now has the mp3 plugin listed in its pulgins but it still doesnt play them.

I installed Sonique under WINE and still i cant hear my MP3's. Fedora sure is annoying now that redhat took out its mp3 support.

Well Fedoras lack of mp3 support would not affect programs in wine because they do not depend on the same libraries.

Are you getting any sound at all? What output are you using in XMMS? Alsa, OSS?

Test your system with an OGG file in XMMS and make that work first. Your problem isnt mp3 support at this point.

Try running alsamixer from a terminal and make sure everything is up and running.

I found a site with xmms rpms and downloaded the one for fedora core 3. I can hear sound now I guess the RPM i installed previously must have been really old or something.
