ive been having some problems with Doom3 since i reinstalled my system (FC4) 2 weeks ago. the game runs fine but the sound is all screwed up, it sounds just like the game thinks im using 5.1 sorround sound! as a result the amt of noise and screeches are unbearable! i reinstalled feroda core 4 and reinstalled Doom3 but got no new results. whats more, i am sure its nt a problem with my sound card as i have 2 ( onboard and PCI ) and both work perfectly in playing movies/music but both give me the same result with Doom3. is there some way i can manually dissable surround sound ( both cards support it but i have turned it off in the sound mixer in KDE ). Any ideas ?
one doesnt need a linux version mate. ID softwares has these binaries on their website which basically install the Doom3 engine and then on copies the .pk4 files from the windows cd over to the base folder the binaries creat. u can do that with all the Opengl games made by ID softwares ( Woot!! )
Solved it !! The problem is that Doom3 uses the OSS sound system while linux uses the ALSA system. in the doom3 shourtcut, i typed : +set s_driver oss to be passed to the command line.
and yes, i eventually did hav a great christmas :P
