Why Do I Need KDE for Okular PDF Reader??

I'm a bit confused here, guys.... I want to install Okular, which is a PDF reader, but before I do, I need to install something called KDE...

1) What's KDE?

2) Why do I need it to view PDFs in Okular?

3) Will installing KDE mess up my desktop in any way?

1) KDE is desktop environment, an alternative to Gnome and XFCE and other desktop environments out there. Just use google to see some screenshots.

2) Because Okular probably depends on libraries that are provided by KDE only. As an alternative, you can install a PDF viewer that does not require KDE (e.g. evince).

3) No. It only means you'll now have two desktop environments to choose from at the log-in screen. Your Gnome applications should be added to your KDE start menu just as your KDE applications should be accessible from your Gnome start menu.
