Which Wine version?


i'm a linux newbie running rehat linux 9. just want to know which Rehdat Linux Wine release shall i choose. is it ok to download any of those releases? Please recommend me the best one.

well depending on your CPU you'd take what your CPU is. I'm not on red hat but I'd go for wine-20040505-1fc1winehq.i386.rpm if I were you. I'm not sure about i686 I think thats P4 or maybe some other type of CPU in general

i'm using a Pentium 1 computer. so what version should i use. plus forgive me for being technologically ignorant but RH 9 is i586 and those Wine packages have i386 and i686 on them.

I allways use i386, I'm not sure what these all mean etc. I have a P3 800mhz (clocks in at ~802.8mhz) and I use 386 and 586, I suggest you just try em both unless someone else knows

i386 is for P1 and P2, i586 is for P3 and i686 is for P4.

Note however they are all backwards compatible -- an i386 will work just fine under a P4, etc. -- J.W.

Actually,

i386 = intel 80386 and clones.
i486 = intel 80486 and clones, AFAIK you don't see i486 packages because i386 will work for all.
i586 = intel 80586(pentium) and clones.
i686 = intel 80686(pII,pIII, and p4) and clones.
