Question Which version of Icinga should I use?

I have a Debian 9 server, and I want to setup monitoring on this server. I am stuck because when I install icinga, the monitoring core and web access seem to work right out of the box.

Icinga2 on the other had does not. Apparently, a separate web software has to be install with it. I've tried multiple tutorials on this icinga2/web, and it seems to be a mess. I've Googled around to find that others agree that Icinga2/web is not a friendly setup.

This leaves me to say maybe I should use icinga, but on the Icinga website the version 1 is achieved. This tells me it is either at its end of life or will be soon.

Any thoughts.

When I look at the Debian-specific bits of https://icinga.com/docs/icinga2/late...tting-started/ I don't see anything that would keep you from getting it to work if you can set up a LAMP box properly? Next to that you don't provide any technical details about what you seem to be having problems with, so it's impossible to help you fix or improve things. Apart from that: are you sure you need Icinga (and not say monit or Zabbix for example)?
