What is wrong with Firefox? Do you want features firefox doesn't have? Why change your browser, it does everything you say you want and is highly customisable with plugins and skins.
Firefox and Konqueror support javascript, css, and xhtml. Your problem is that the proprietary formats and codecs such as Sun's java runttime environment, flash, mpeg, wmv, avi, mp3, and ram, can't be included with free software because of legal restrictions. You have to download those proprietary bits separately and install them yourself. Google for the name of your distribution and the word "multimedia" or "codec" and somebody will have instructions for how to download and install these correctly. If you are using a 64bit version of linux, you will find that there are no 64 bit versions of flash or realplayer codecs, so you will have to use GPLflash and forget about streaming realplayer or install the 32 bit libraries and a 32 bit version of the webbrowser. Might have to do it with chroot. It's really complicated, so read the forums for your distribution.
