How do i format my PC?
Hi,
Can anyone tell me how i format my PC. WITHOUT deleting the partition(s) that are on it already. As i will use the old partition(s) for SuSE 9.1 installation.
Help would be greatly appreciated,
David

ummm FORMAT means BLANK lol. Linux will just make its own new partition. You cant use a partition dedicated to WINDOWS for LINUX

You want to destroy the windows partition to create a new one to Suse?
You distro installer partition program should do that
Delete the partition and create one ext3 and one swap

i'm still stuck
Do you mean, try booting from the SuSE 9.1 cd? My bro says we need a DOS boot disk to first format the drive(s). But still leave the partitions. Where can i download a boot disk from? That actually works that is. i've already had a quick scout about on google, found some but i don't know what the command line is to format the hard disk.
Can anyone help please !
Many Thanks,
David.

some installers aren't capable of deleting partitions and such, but i very much doubt suse would have the slightest problem with it.

erm.. ok... you can go to bootdisk.com and waste your time there if you really want... but you do not need to do this. everyone has said it's not needed. the suse installer WILL format every partition. how do you intend to format the partitions beforehand? fat32? it WILL be replaced whatever.

the proper answer is don`t get mad with people that give free advice in their own time....maybe do a bit of research on google instead of looking for the easy option....ur original question was `how do I format my pc` everyone that answered ur question has given u advice! Maybe instead of grrrrrrrrrrr! u could say "thanx guys but maybe I don`t really understand what u mean or what to do ,could u give me a bit more advice. " It`s very rare I get `miffed` with peoples problems but what do u want....someone to come over to your house and set it up for u!!!

so all i have to do is...
so all i have to do is format the disk entirely. And SuSE 9.1 will create its own partitions to install on to?

maybe you'd be prepared to consider that your brother might not be correct in this situation?
