Well there are analgous tools on Linux. On Linux you don't have to worry so much about "spyware" in the Windows sense of the word but you do need to beware of rootkits.

So you will want a rootkit detection/removal tool. I run both chkrootkit and rkhunter on my Linux boxen.

Wow another spyware victum born every day

Let's be nice now, not all of us can recognize what contains malware and what doesn't. Think back to your first days on the computer. Spyware on Windows may be a given with some things, but it's not always obvious. Besides, if it works, it works. (the application, that is)

I am using RedHat LInux 8.0. And what I would really want is a disk checking utility. If there is such a software then I dont know about it and would like to know where can I get one from...
My comp has slowed down considerably and I would like to scan my disk atleast once.

beyond compare and

- Nero to burn multisession tracks in a GUI because K3b and XCDRoast aren't that intuitive
- Beyond Compare 2 to diff and merge local and remote ftp files and foldes. KDiff3 is much slower, I don't know why yet.
- Canon i350 printer driver. Not a program, but badly needed, if only for a fair price, not the one being asked by a company
- Quicktime
- Shockwave

alaindu 06-30-2005 07:23 AM

- shockwave?

isnt shockwave supported with the linux flash player? (i might be wrong, but im sure i can see shockwave movies!)

amosf 06-30-2005 07:47 AM

Flash is ported but not shockwave. You have to use crossover to use shockwave in linux at this stage...

OneSeventeen 06-30-2005 09:07 AM

easy:

The Adobe Creative Suite 2
Macromedia Studio MX 2004

That's all I need. I may even create a website devoted to rallying geeks to flood their office with these requests. I honestly don't understand why they aren't ported.

And while the GIMP looks like it might be powerful, can you create a vector shape, apply a gradient, transparency, bevelled edge, stroke, shadow, etc. enlarge that shape by 400%, then take off the beveled edge and stroke and add a texture, all without losing any quality of the graphic?

If you can, then I'll probably be switching over gladly, but if it can't do vector art/vector text, and on top of that only does raster 'effects' or raster filters, then I don't see how that is even usable. I guess if you never intended on modifying the graphic again, other than rearranging the stuff without changing properties of the objects...

I don't know about Gnome but on KDE, this is simple. I had mine rotating images every few hours. I've currently stopped and have this beatiful lifeless sunset that the Sprit rover took. http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/galle...20050610a.html

Here's from a few days ago...

Microsoft Access or at least release a similiar database program. I hate Microsoft but Access works.

dsschanze 07-01-2005 09:18 AM

Do you know about mysql?

osio 07-01-2005 12:36 PM

mysql and partition magic

mysql can be installed on Windows!
Partition Magic is a must to make both Windows and Fedora share the same hard drive; sysreccd didn't help me. The latter's bug is stubbornly kept release after release, I don't know why.

osio 07-01-2005 12:38 PM

The bug is Fedora's; its grub's default configuration ruins the Master Boot Record where Windows XP's resides.

I know, what I was saying is that davethegenius wanted a database program similar to ms access. I was just giving him a suggestion because I don't think that M$ will ever port Access to linux.:)
