Thanks, I used Ardour, but it's nowhere near easy to use as Garageband. It's more in between that and Logic. And to make things clear, I agree that Ardour is terrific and very powerful. It's just that the learning curve is a bitch having to learn all over again a new system.

My point is to have easy to use programs ported to Linux, or created from scratch, since I know Apple wouldn't agree on a port.

I'd like to see the original emelfm Linux program be resurrected. That thing was fast and handles very large directories with ease.

Ported from Windows, my wish list would be Forte Agent from Forte Inc and Thumbs Plus from Cerious.

It's slow. Painfully slow compared to the original.

Unhappy GPS, Garmin, DeLorme

I would really find Garmin GPS programs ported to linux very helpful, the gps is almost a must when traveling or finding my way around in an unfamiliar city. On a recreational use the DeLorme handheld gps is great for hiking and getting around the backcountry.
I have spent many hours searching ubuntu, mint and debian forums for work arounds for the Garmin programs and downloads to work with no success.Have also spent much time with wine and its various bits and pieces and have only been able to get partial working from DeLorme topo programs.

Has rufus been mentioned? Been having difficulty with usb images and went to windows os to use rufus in order to make bootable flash drives. I should explore the linux methods more to see if I can get it right.

edit -
scratch that I've been using dd wrong with the sdX1
instead of just sdX all is well

Most distributions nowadays produce an ISO image which can be transferred to a USB stick using dd or else produce a specific image for that purpose. I haven't used unetbootin ("the old way" of creating a bootable USB stick under Linux") for about 5 years.

Yea it sounds so simple. But comparing rufus and dd rufus takes a lot longer to get through the steps it has than dd. Hoping I'm just missing something and I find it.

I installed Chromium with the intent of installing a web browser. What I got was an arcade game to my surprise.

In Debian, at least, the browser is taking over form the game -- whether that is good, bad or irrelevant I'll leave it to the reader to decide.
