well forgive my inexperience.....my only vehicle for writing digraphs in linux is using zim desktop wiki, and as far as i know that only works in the .dot language. on the other hand the only way i have learned about neato, circo, two pi and fdp is through Google chart API. I would certainly appreciate any enlightenment offered on what other linux vehicles are available to me for graphs. thanks.
You could try XNView. It also has a linux port and does the same / more than Irfan does. Perhaps it works better on 64bit, though I've not tried it on one though (only on my 32bit Ubuntu thus far). It is more resent, thus may have more hope.
But I'm with you on having nothing from the usual linux sources which comes close to the ease of use and power of these image library managers. Hopefully there's someone listening and making for a full native image manager comparable to ACDSee / XNView / IrfanView / Fastone - in that order of preference.
Irne, I tried xnview in win xp and didn't like it, it doesn't have the capabilities of IRFANview. Thanks for mentioning it though. After I posted the above I got some suggestions about forcing the install and after I played about for a while, I finally got it working. Thanks to all who helped me with this little bugger.

IIRC version 2004 for Mac is (finally) a OSX native app, so maybe it wouldn't be too off the wall to port it to Linux? This is the main reason I still use Win2k at work. I don't use Finale at home, so I'm M$-free there, at least.

You really should look at MuseScore. It is under active development and really does a fine job. I've used both and have completely switched to MuseScore. BTW - It runs under both Linux and Win

Ken, try this for IRFANview, it was sent to me by Irfan. It is an older version then the latest but you can install it and then D/L the latest zip file and unzip and copy to the IRFAN view directory: http://www.irfanview.info/test/irfan....25-0_i386.deb
I installed it after some hassle because my system is 64 bit and it didn't like 32 bit software. However with some help from here, I got it working and I'm very happy with it. I even copied my Photoshop 8bf files from windoze to the Linux IRFANview plugin directory and now have a gazillion plugins. check it out.
Hope this helps resolve at least one name on your list. Seems to me I've seen notepad plus in the software resources. Do a google on it

It's probably been mentioned:
Photoshop
Flash - as much as we all love to hate flash, it's sadly a pretty big standard
Netflix - I never tried it but I heard it does not work, because of some stupid DRM crap.. I'm sure the Linux community can figure out a workaround to make it think it's on Windows or something
IrfanView
the simpliest though powerful pictures manager, I knew since many years.
Free, simple, friendly but very features rich, modest in system's resources consomption.

I'd love to see foobar2000 for linux, its far and away the best audio player I ever used with windows. But its never going to happen from what Peter Pawlowski (foobar2000 dev) has said in the past.
