What is the proper directory to install libraries/dependecies of Gnome/Anjuta?

Several files are needed to install Anjuta on RedHat. Some of these are ATK, GTK+, Glib, Pango. As is common with most installation instructions, Anjuta's instructions do not describe where libraries should be installed so that programs can 'see' them. All of the dependencies of Anjuta seem to be dependencies of Gnome itself, so where should Gnome libraires be installed so as not to mess up my current Gnome installation?
