In OOo, web page development can be done by selecting from the menu: View -> Web Layout
You can insert hyperlinks: Insert -> hyperlink and Edit -> hyperlink

When you save, save as html rather than odt

Open it the document with a web browser, for ex:
file:///home/myusername/myfile.html

If that doesn't give you nice results, try going back to OOo and exporting it as xhtml
File -> Export... then select xhtml as your file format

then check that with the web browser:
file:///home/myusername/myfile.xhtml

When you are done, make sure to check your webpage with as many webbrowsers as possible. I frequently find differences between Internet Explorer / all the Mozilla-based browsers / all the Konqueror-like browsers (which includes Mac's Safari)

Unfortunately, OOo doesn't have a code source view, so you can't edit the html code inside OOo
For that, try Nvu. SeaMonkey/Mozilla Suite also has a basic html editor, but I don't recommend it.

Frankly, none of the free software programs compare to FrontPage or Dreamweaver in my opinion. Nvu is coming along nicely, but it still lacks a few things that drive me nuts. I find myself frequently haveing to switch over to code view to make things display correctly.

Dreamweaver will run thru wine but it is far from perfect. Try the seamonkey it's not as good a dreamweaver but nothing is.

you might want to have a look at quanta (kde) and bluefish (gnome) or NVU (mozilla) if you want things be EaSy, the most professionals just use a "plain" editor to write their pages,
but if you are just trying to make a onetime page that has too look good fast, without having to learn the inns and outs of HTML you could try these three.

Dreamweaver Blue fish/NVU

If i was to try to do it with an HTML editor would it be like having to lean jaca or perl? I have a month or so to do it. I just want it to look good and not take an expert to figure out how to do. I have some experience with frontpage but dont have access to it. We run on a apache server with enterprise RH at our workstations and at home i have linux as well. I dont really have access to a windows box for an extened amount of time. =)

This may be useful to you in the long run......
I started with a WYSIWYG editor (Adobe Go-Live) and hated it (Even though it did eventually get the job done) My conclusion was that WYSIWYG is never perfect--to really get it right, you always have to get into the html.
Years later---after my MSsectomy**--I stumbled into two things: Bluefish and a Book called "Spring into CSS and HTML"
link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/013...lance&n=283155

Now, I will not do web pages any other way. By learning the guts, you achieve MUCH more control, and an editor like Bluefish minimizes the tedium of working at the HTML level.
