is it true that they're all sold out, tail between their hind legs...???
Even the "wine" project, so bold and independent they begun and now they
behave 'as they're told to': proggies such as dvdshrink and/or FixVTS no longer are permitted to run (with wine or brandy or whatever!...).
is this the promised linux FREEDOM??! SAD -- Sad indeed. The power of M$!!!
am i right or am i right? Enlight me please.

I think you should back up what you post with official statements from developers whose products you mention. And I'm wondering: are you a developer or a user?
DVD Shrink is rated Gold/Platinum with Wine, FixVTS is rated Platinum.
I also don't see how a Windows program not running properly with Wine in Linux is a sign for lacking freedom in Linux. It is a sign for lacking freedom in Windows.
What I find more sad is that this is another thread where you are saying that Linux has no support for handling DVDs, not even if you try it with Windows programs, when all other members here clearly state that they have no problem with that.
There is no conspiracy in any form to make you not handle your DVDs with Linux.
May be it would be better that you try some Linux programs for the tasks you want to achieve and when you come to a point where a problem arises you open a new thread and extensively describe your problems there, so that we can actually help you.
Useful information would be:
1. Which distribution in which version?
2. Which software in which version?
3. What have you done before the problem arises?
4. What exactly is the problem (including all error messages you get)?
Anything you want to do with a DVD...
Mplayer, mencoder, ffmpeg, mkisofs, growisofs, lsdvd, libdvdcss will do it.
If mplayer won't play your DVD then you haven't installed something like libdvdcss, or codecs. Some people like VLC or Xine.
If mencoder or ffmpeg won't allow you to keep a backup copy of your own DVD in the format that you want then you don't have something installed right.
For burning or making images...
Bashburn, tkdvd, recorder, mkisofs, growisofs, Xfburn, K3B, dd....etc.
If these tools don't work for you then you don't have something installed right.
And why are you running windows apps in wine when native apps work so well, and are usable between platforms, Linux, BSD, Solaris.
a Windows program not running properly with Wine in Linux is a sign for lacking freedom in Linux. It is a sign for lacking freedom in Windows.
This is an excellent point and needs repeated for emphasis. Thank you TobiSGD for this insight.

If taken, my excuses for such daring, inconvenient, hurting statements.
Will not repeat it.
Fare thee well.

Not sure what that translates to. But, Linux is free. You are free to explore, research and modify as you choose, for your needs. If you think something is so wrong, then please donate your time and expertise to the community and offer to fix or add to the existing programs, rather than sitting back and criticising free products made by volunteers.
