Weird user issues???
Hi I have some odd issues with users. If I create an account and give the user I make a password though kuser, for some odd reason the password only seems to last for the duration of that single session. After this (if for example I logout or reboot) I have to login as root again and recreate the password. Also the user cannot become su via the console, so anything that root needs to do needs to be done directly through the root account. I know that normally the solution to not being able to allow a user to become su is to add them to the 'wheel' group, but I am using debian and this does not appear to have a 'wheel' group included.
Also i noticed in kuser that a lot of the 'users' are highlighted in red - but I have no idea what this is telling me. Has anyone got any clue how to resolve these issues and how to allow users to access the su environment normally?
I've tried adding the wheel group, but nothing I can think of seems to work.
Any input would be extremely welcome.
GJ
Edit: OK it just got worse. Now users can't login at all - and kuser isn't offering to save my passwords at all any more... What on earth is going on?
