Wanted: Halt/Reboot buttons in XDM. Red Hat 5

I would like to use xdm for logins. However I have found it very hard to make it easy for my mom to shutdown my Red Hat 5 box when I'm gone and its lighting.

I would like to have a simple Halt button or if this can't work have a halt user name (I have this set up in consle mode and works fine.)

I have used google and have found a few mailing list arvhives that say "I will e-mail you the code." A lot of good that helps me.

Any help would be appreacthed.

If anyonemight need more info on my box let me know.

I also have a very small working knowloge of Tk.

Tim,

What window manager is she using?

You could always add her to wheel,
and make "halt" suid, chgrp wheel,
and then put a button on her desktop :)

Cheers,
Tink

My mom does not really use Linux very much, but she sometimes needs to shut it down.

We use fvwm2, with the default AfterStep configuration.

I have tried compileing xdm-photo, because I have herd that it has a button that presents a menu with color, lang., halt etc.
But I'm haveing missing/misplaced librarys that I can't find to ln -s to.

I have gotten a Tk script to work that halts and reboots the computer (I peaced it together from little snippits from lists.debian.org).

However, I can't get rid of the buttons.
Ihave read the kill and grep man pages but have not come up with a way to get rid of the buttons.
