Question want to mount removable disk as async not sync

Hi there. I noticed that when I plug in my removable disk, Mandriva 2005 auto-mounts it as "sync" which causes the I/O to be about 10 times slower to the disk. If I manually remount it as "async", things fly, but of course I am careful of unmounting before unplugging.

I was wondering how I could make the "async" to be the norm when I plug in my removable?

Thanks!

Thanks a lot!
However my /etc/fstab entry gets updated dynamically when I insert the removable disk.
When I unplug it, the entry is gone.

Therefore if I update it manually, my changes would be lost, I think..

its my understanding that your /etc/fstab is secure...but your /etc/mtab is changed on boot depending on your devices....just edit it and see what happens....have a backup and a live cd just in case
