Question VSFTPD User Connect Force off Time.

I now have VSFTPD working for the most part.

My question is this. I have the idle session session time out set as follows:
idle_session_timeout=600

However, when a user is logged in and noting doing anything they seem to say logged in forever.

I've tried this using my own user id and the same happens. I'm not root, just about a common user.

I've tried a plain ftp using a Windows command prompt session and then using SmartFTP.

Suse 10.2/VMware 1.0.3 Host is Windows/XP-SP2

Any thoughts about this will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi.

Have a look in /var/log/vsftpd.log and see if the clients are issuing 'NOOP' commands. If the logs aren't very detailed, try running wireshark/ethereal to see if there's any traffic when the connection between the server and client should be quiet.

If they are doing NOOPs, you can prevent this by specifying which FTP commands you allow in vsftpd.conf
