I am using vsftpd 2.0.3. I have installed it, and using the default configuration file, it works. Anonymous only.
When i change vsftpd.conf and disable anonymous and enable local_enable=YES, I can only log in as root. All other users return 530: bad login.
Has anybody else had this problem??
If somebody is using it, could you please post your working vsftpd.conf file AND please explain to me wheather or not you have any other files relating to the users and their passwords as well as access rights.
I am using slackware as the server.
Is it in fact a bug or is it just me??
Thanks
PS: i have been trying with the previous version as well, it wouldn't work.
There are two other files apart from vsftpd.conf you should look at.
The 'ftpusers' file contains a list of users not allowed to log in.
If userlist_enable=YES and userlist_deny=NO in vstfpd.conf, then the 'user_list' file should contain a list of users who are allowed to log in.
If userlist_enable=YES and userlist_deny=YES in vstfpd.conf, then the 'user_list' file should contain a list of users who are not allowed to log in.
And i created a file called vsftpd.user_list which contains all usernames. This should mean that everybody is able to log on. It still won't work: 530 login incorrect. The password and username combinations are correct, because i can log in to the terminal (bash) with those users.
I found my mistake: I am not using RedHat or similar, it's slackware and it doesn't "do" PAM.
This little addition to my config file "check_shell=NO" solved the problem...
Oh, about the bug found in the topic, I didn't really believe in it myself, but I was confident that i would get more pros and geeks to take a look at this ;-)!!
