I have a problem running vsftpd in redhat linux9.
When i edit the vsftpd.conf file,
restarting the vsftpd deamon I get the following message:
vsftpd is dead but subsys is locked.
can anyone help me?

I have tried to erase the vsftpd file in /var/lock/subsys/
when I restart vsftp it generates a new file, but the subsystem are still locked

what do your logs say, esp /var/log/messages and /var/log/vsftpd.log

Check this link for clues

I have tried one thing. If I rename vsftp.conf, and set up an edited copy I get the aforementioned message.
if I restore the unedited original, everything works fine.
Apparently a config file problem. Any suggestsions

I am having the same problem. Tried the same thing, replaced my conf file with the original, and it made no difference for me.
