Question VNCViewer - Black Screen When Remoting from FD4->XPPro

Hey Guys,

When I fire up vncviewer on my FC4 so I can connect to a XPPro box I am able to enter the IP and the password to connect but after that all I am left with is a black screen. I have done enough to know that people have had problems with this but in the opposite connecting direction XPPro -> Fedora because of not selecting the correct GUI interface (KDE or Gnome). But this is just me simply trying to access a XPPro machine FROM my FC4 Box. Anybody have this same problem and were you able to fix it?

Thanks in Advance.

Mmmm. I actually had the very same thing a couple of times, but from a Win machine to another Win machine. The black screen you're seeing, is there by any chance a mouse-cursor right in the centre that looks like it wants to move when you move your mouse around, but seems to be held in place by a magnet?

If that's the case, it's the VNCServer on the Windows machine that's causing problems.

The only way I found to rectify this was to either restart the Windows machine/ reinstall VNCServer on the Windows machine. You could try upgrading to a different brand of VNCServer on Windows as well to try and permanently solve it.

In my case this problem happened quite a lot when I tried switching users on the Windows machine while connected via VNC.

The only thing that I get is a black screen with a small pointer that is just a dot, it is not locked and I can move it anywhere on the screen, I will try upgrading the VNC server on the windows machine to see if it solves anything.

RealVNC

Try RealVNC

I use this exclusively to remote to WinXP/Win200 machines.

Configure your settings based around your network bandwidth. I find it extremely USELESS to leave the background in place and also to leave mouse/kb active on remote machine.
