VMWare problems

Good day !

I have both Gentoo Linux and Fedora Core 4 on my hard disk . I don't want to boot Fedora , I only want to use it from within Gentoo , with the help of VMWare . I've installed vmware, got it to run but now it's time to set it up so that I can boot Fedora .

First , a few things that *might* be of help (pardon any uselessness):

Code:
#1 disk layouts:

Disk /dev/hda: 40.0 GB, 40020664320 bytes
16 heads, 63 sectors/track, 77545 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 = 516096 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1   *           1          63       31720+  83  Linux
/dev/hda2              64         560      250488   82  Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/hda3             561        1142      293328   83  Linux
/dev/hda4            1143       77545    38507112    5  Extended
/dev/hda5            1143       15032     7000528+  83  Linux
/dev/hda6           15033       22970     4000720+  83  Linux
/dev/hda7           22971       23940      488848+  83  Linux
/dev/hda8           23941       73420    24937888+  83  Linux
/dev/hda9           73421       77025     1816888+  83  Linux <--- FEDORA "/"
/dev/hda10          77026       77545      262048+  82  Linux swap / Solaris <--- FEDORA SWAP
Code:
#2 (results of) mount:

/dev/hda3 on / type reiserfs (rw,noatime,notail)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw)
udev on /dev type tmpfs (rw,nosuid)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw)
/dev/hda5 on /usr type reiserfs (rw,nodev,noatime,notail)
/dev/hda6 on /var type reiserfs (rw,nodev,noatime,notail)
/dev/hda7 on /tmp type reiserfs (rw)
/dev/hda8 on /home type reiserfs (rw,nodev,noatime,notail)
none on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)

(notice Fedora partitions are not mounted ; notice that Gentoo /boot partition is not mounted either)
Code:
#3 /boot/grub/grub.conf (gentoo)

default 0
timeout 10
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

title=Gentoo Linux
root (hd0,0)
kernel /kernel-genkernel-x86-2.6.12-gentoo-r6 real_root=/dev/hda3
8O

Right .. so on we go to make a virtual machine for Fedora..

Code:
# vmware & <-- I run VMWare , from the "root" account
VMWare starts up and this is what I do :

Code:
(select button) New Virtual Machine

Virtual Machine Configuration -> Custom

Virtual Machine Format -> New - Workstation 5

Guest Operating System -> Linux
Version -> Other Linux 2.6.x kernel

Virtual Machine Name -> Fedora
Location -> /home/dec/vmware/Fedora (I do this because the default /root/vmware/ is too small)

Memory -> 96 MB (recommended memory)

Network Connection -> Use bridged networking

IDE Adapter: AtAPI
SCSI Adapter -> LSI Logic (!???)

Disk -> Use a physical disk (for advanced users)

Device -> /dev/hda
Usage -> Use individual partitions

(8 partitions come up, the 7th is 1.7 GB which seems to match the partition on which Fedora is installed)

(select) Partition 7

Disk file -> /home/dev/vmware/Fedora/Fedora.vmdk

Finnish
Great .. now to power the virtual machine ..

Code:
GRUB Loading stage1.5

GRUB loading, please wait...
Error 17
Now I know that Error 17 means GRUB saw the partition it had to boot but couldn't boot it .. however I can not figure out where I'm going wrong .. I would very much appreciate it if someone could help me out with this .. Thank you !
