At the vmware forums would be the best place. Did you do an A+X on the file?

I found that the solution to this problem was simple as follows:

specify the path of your perl binary, try:

# which perl -- will tell you where perl lies, usually /usr/bin/perl

Now run the patch script:

# /usr/bin/perl runme.pl -- and now the script should run fine.

worked for me on 2.6.16-1.2133_FC5xen0

Unable to open the installer database /etc/vmware-tools/locations in read-mode
