Is there any simple video editing software for linux? I am looking for something simple like apple's iMovie, something I can drag clips into, add transitions between clips, put text on movies. Simple things like that, I will also need to be able to encode it to something like h264 for the sake of my HD space since all the video I get off my camera is huge DV files.
Thanks for your help/suggestions
I used Main Actor (http://www.mainconcept.com/site/?id=954) and worked both with ubuntu 7.4 & 7.10 and now I'm using it with fedora 7.
It's really easy to use. I only read the pdf that you can find on the help link within the program.
Do some googling and you will find a lot of info.
I'm not sure about h264 encoding.
I've never used either (although I'm about to try them out ), so I don't know what they're like, but they seem to have the features you're looking for. Not sure about the h264 thing though...
Main Actor looks nice, but I don't have money. Cinelerra will not work on debian, and I am not going to upgrade to sid for this software. I will look at kino though.
I downloaded avidemux and it not only does h264, it also multi threads which is good for a dual-core system. But the only caveat is that it will not open .dv files which are the majority of what I work with. Kino will encode my dv files to h264 which is good, but it does not multi task as well. But at least I can encode to h264 and clear up some GB of space on my server.
