Background. I have a new camcorder, but I do not have a Video In card on my PC. I do have a standalone DVD burner, so I have burned video from the camera to DVD.
I have not been able to get the data into a format understood by kedenlive, kino or cinelarra.
I can edit it with avidemux and cut out chunks of video. So far I have not been able to remerge them back together or add effects.
But how do I get the data into a format that I can use a non-linear editor on.
Originally posted by michaelsanford I don't know what format your DVD burner saves video in but if it's DV or AVIDV you should be ok, at least for kdenlive.
What format is it saved in on the DVD?
Sorry, I was unclear. The DVD burner I have is a standalone unit, so it is burning a standard commercial DVD, that can be played directly on any DVD player. It is not DVD-Data.
If I could get the data from the DVD in DV format, I would likely be set, but I have not figured out how to get mencoder (or anything else)to do that.
I record TV in mjpeg format with mencoder and then use avidemux on it. I'm pretty sure mencoder could be used to convert a DVD to mjpeg/avi, which should then be usable by any decent video editor. The mencoder line would be something like:

Great! That is really close. The video will now load into Cinelarra, but not kino or kedenlive. Ok, can live with that for now. the aspect ratio is hosed, but I think I will be able to figure that out.
