Very "simple" 3D program

Hi,

I'll start working in a small project to teach some simple physics. The idea is that some object move according to Newton laws and that kind of stuff, but I'll like to show them in 3D, be able to change some parameters of the objects (weight, dimensions) and show to the student what happend under the new conditions. No awesome graphics are needed, so I was thinking that very simple object, made with a little number of polygons and other primitives would work, then there could be kind of two programs:

1) One application to make the physical calculations and create a text-file with the visual specifications of the objects. Something like

Code:
cube1:
  size: ...
  color ...
  initial position:
sphere1:
   radius:...
   color: ...
   initial position:
cube2:
   ...

trajectories:
  cube1: ..............
  cube2: .........
2) One that takes this file and "simply" draws the graphics, moving them according to the trajectories.

I don't now anything about 3D programming, but I think that maybe there is already some utility that does the second part, and that's why I'm asking here. Dreamed features could be things like portability and the posibility to set the view point from the drawing program.

Thank you in advance!

there are some examples that come with qt in the doc/examples/opengl folder that migh help you
unfortunately it's a little weirder than putting it in a text file but the text file is easy if you make it a kde app
kde has a config class that writes and retrievs data real easy

"povray" is perfect for showing this kind of graphics.
it is a good teaching tool, AFAIK, slackware is the only disto to include the frontend for this program.........
one just has to search google and download the rest.

Take a look at

http://www.websamba.com/Linux_Docs_Links
-> software
-> graphics

and see if anything is suitable.

PS -> Your salvation is indeed POVray, and the "front-end" referred to is KPOVModeler, which is indeed part of the KDE desktop in Slackware, which I use (though it be inferior to Debian). KPOVModeler is literally a "click 'n' build" interface that will take you about five minutes to learn how to plop down a few poly-gons.

I just happen to have a blog posted which is a gallery of my 3D art created in POVray and other Linux tools...the one in my sig. Pardon my shameless promotion!
