VeraCrypt won't encrypt drive

I have an 8TB HDD that I am trying to encrypt to use as a backup that is mounted. I am using ext4. The problem is I get as far as the Volume Format window but when I click to Format I get this error: "Permission denied:" with the drive id number followed by "VeraCrypt::File::Open232 . Does anyone know how to get it to encrypt?

Forget it. I redid the whole process and this time it worked.
