Ventrilo on WINE differs depending on if I'm root or not - need help

When running as root it:

1) Connects to servers fine
2) Can hear people talk
3) My microphone transmits only static
4) My sound devices are reported incorrectly

When not running as root:

1) My sound devices are reported correctly
2) I can not join servers
2a) Server has no channels/users shown (they are in it)
2b) "Can not resolve host name" when it should be able to

Help? There's nothing about this on the internet and my files are chmod'd just fine.

Hey,

Here is a really good walk through from the Gentoo fourms. Most of the information can be translated into other distro's just ignore the flag settings for the gentoo stuff.

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Ventrilo_Via_Wine

If you have any questions let me know and i'll see what I can do.

My guess is your mic is not setup properly in the Winecfg or Vent for it to work on Wine. Also you have to use a little hack program to use push to talk capabilities outside of the wine window.

I've read all that, my mic is setup properly and i use it regularly on skype/ts, and i use that program already.

What I want to know is why it has connection issues when NOT run as root. I assume a network setting somewhere possibly.

Also, Alsa incorrectly displays my audio devices meanwhile ogg is fine.

Any help is much appreciated.

P.S. I have two sound cards.

I can't solve this on my own : /

Is it lack of non-root network permissions?
