Using Prey on Linux mint 12

I am running linux mint 12 on a dell mini 1012 currently running the mate desktop

I have found Prey in the repository but am unable to find where I can change settings. I need to do this because it is not comunicating with the server so its not actually doing anything.
The repo says its installed.

So my question is where and how do I correct this?

I can change the desktop to gnome 3 yuck or whatever if i need to.

Anyone who doesnt know what prey is can look here and maybe be smarter than I and see what my problem is. http://preyproject.com/

P.S i have used this on other devices but I have never had to change anything so im at a loss since Linux mint is new to me, had to change cus of gnome 3 from Fedora

Hello,

Where did it get installed to? If anything, perform the following:
Code:
which prey
That should give you the location where prey is installed; Look in that directory for the configuration. Most likely though, just like any other configuration, look in /etc/ for the prey configuration file. In the past, I installed from source, so I knew where exactly I put all of the files.

Cheers,

Josh

Ok, so what's all going on? What is the current issue? Explain in the best details you can, and I can assist.

When I installed it I couldnt get it told me the device was unverified so i searched preys website for common reasons and In my search it told me to run --check of prey.sh(http://support.preyproject.com/kb/co...-is-unverified)

The output of this is

[Nemesis@Nemesis-laptop ~]$ /home/Nemesis/.prey/prey/prey.sh --check

-- CHECK MODE ON.

### PREY 0.5.3 spreads its wings!
### Linux Nemesis-laptop 2.6.35.14-106.fc14.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Nov 23 13:07:52 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

It seems your PC is unable to reach the Control Panel. Please check your firewall settings so that Curl can connect to http://control.preyproject.com over port 80 (HTTP).

I have checked my firewall it is not the problem.
I am on a school network... I am going to try and see if i can find exactly what to ask them to see if they are blocking it or if i need to change the file so that it can get thru, however i dont know if it uses a different setup or not but my IPod doesnt have any problem connecting... tHE website says the IPods good and I even reported it stolen and it was shown on the website to be located right where I knew it was.

I get this when I don't have network connectivity, but I haven't tested it to see if it comes up in other situations too.

Perhaps it means prey can't connect to the Prey website. In which case, nothing is wrong with your configuation, but instead something is blocking the connection.
