Question Using linux like a normal telephone?

I would simply like to use my linux box like a normal telephone set over my regular phone line (not over the internet).

I have a 56K modem, a headset and a mic on my system. I would like to use them to make and receive phone calls over my analogic telephone line (not ISDN). I would also like to send and receive faxes.

I googled without success

Does someone have any suggestions regarding which program I should use?

Thanks for your help.
