Hello!
I'm trying to get distcc to play happy on my network. To create my little compile farm, I downloaded a Knoppix iso, and burned about 6 copies, and placed them around the house in the different machines. I got distcc all setup on those machines, and then went to the machine where I was compiling. This machine is running (or is trying to anyway) gentoo. I was in the setup stages, and was to the emerge -e system stage. Just to make sure there weren't any glitches, I tried emerging vim first (after all, who can live without it?).
Lucky for me, it errored quickly giving me an error relating to the location of GCC on the remote machines. I thought this a bit odd, did some checking, and have hopefully found my problem. Knoppix is built with GCC with a march=i486. This makes the GCC on there apparently want to build for that arch. The Gentoo boxes all want to build for i686 (pentium 3's to be exact). The GCC versions are off by a minor number (3.3.6 and 3.3.5) so I'm thinking that's not such a big deal. However, this i486/i686 seems to be where my problem is lurking (if I'm way off, feel free to say so, but please provide info on why and how I can find out what is actually wrong
).
So, any ideas/input on how to get Knoppix to build my gentoo would be much appreciated.
Not sure what other info you may want, but reply with a request and I'll be happy to post it up!
Cool
