usb disk not mounting automatically

Hello friends,
I have FC7 and it was not having any problem w.r.t. auto-mounting of the USB flash disk. Then since upgraded kernel version was available, I upgraded to 2.6.22.1-27.fc7 through the "Software Updater".
Now the usb disk has stopped getting auto-mounted. When I boot to the previous version (at the GRUB prompt) the problem is solved.

How can I restore this capability in the new version.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Linux uses the hotplug utility to detect whether you inserted your usb mouse or not. Check whether you have got an /etc/hotplug folder in your system...

Search the files overthere...it may give you some idea...

prabhatsoni,

It seems lots of people are having the same or similar problem as you. This Google search got 94 matches. You might want to, in particular, take a look at this fedoraforum thread. This post talks about the need to update to the most recent version of autofs, while this post talks about updating to an even newer version of the kernel. However, the next post reported even that did not solve somebody's problem. There might be more than one issue here, but I would suggest following development on the Internet to see what you can find.

Good luck.

@ramesh6056,

The fact the this functionality still works on an old kernel suggests that it is not an issue with the configuration files.

EDIT: minor wording change for clarity

The system is recognising the flash disk. IN fact went through the messages.

But the thing is that it is sensing the flash disk and recording the messages to that effect, but it was not mounting on its own.

Hello folks,

Even after updating to kernel version 2.6.22.1-33.fc7 the problem persists.

May be there is a bug !

Sounds like it. Since your kernel is detecting the device, you can probably manually mount it until a solution is found. You will have to do that as root unless you add an entry to /etc/fstab that includes the mount option user.
