Uninstalled Suse now cannot boot windows GRUB stalls

I used to have win XP and Suse 9 on my desktop computer.
I decided I did not need linux anymore and uninstalled it without taking into account the dual boot options. Since then I cannot boot windows or Linux and PC stalls at GRUB when starting. I tried to boot with Windows XP CD but this did not succed I received blue screen saying the process stopped beause my pc may be infected with virus or any other thing etc etc
and stalls also.
Is there any thing I can do in order to avoid format the hard disk?
Thank you all...

How did you uninstall Suse? What did you do?

What you might be able to do is to boot off the Suse rescue disk... then, if it still exists (i. e. you did not format to "uninstall" Suse), edit your grub.conf to not refer to any kernel, and make Windows the default boot target, with a zero seconds time for the grub "choose your operating system" delay?

IF you "uninstalled" Suse by formatting its partition, you might be in real trouble and need to format the disc to get your PC usable again.

Windows are well known to be allergic to other OS
But you can try to get in the repair option Windows Cd and use the
option fixmbr to restore the MBR

Thank you for the responses...
Actually what I did is that I erased the partition using partition magic 8 .then merged the partition from linux with that of windows...
Is there a chance to avoid format, or should I search for a way to backup my disk?
thanx again...

Hmm, you most likely need to format your disk and reinstall from scratch.

You might be able to boot off a Linux rescue disk or Live CD / DVD, and you might then be able to see your harddisk contents. You might then be able to copy some vital data off it to a flashdisk or maybe even burn to DVD... it all depends on whether you can do all that with a Live CD / DVD distro.

Then, once you have your data copied off (by booting off the Live CD / DVD) you can reformat completely and reinstall Windows.

Try using FIXMBR as already suggested by ronlau9...

http://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/fix-mbr-xp-vista/

If it works properly your system should boot into Windows normally.
