Unable to run multiple instances of gnome-commander

My current system is CentOS 6 with two monitors, separate X screens. I often run multiple instances of gnome-commander - one or more on each monitor depending on what I am doing. Yesterday I had occasion to run two instances on a machine running Ubuntu Mate 15.10. It did not work. Here is what I did and what I observed:

- I started gnome-commander on workspace1. No problem.
- I switched to workspace 2.
- I clicked on the gnome-commander launcher

gnome-commander did not launch. I observed a task bar button for gnome-commander in the lower panel. If I click on this button I am taken back to the running instance of gnome-commander on workspace 1.

I observed similar behavior with Eye of Mate and Shotwell image viewer on the Ubuntu Mate machine.

I then tested other distros:

- CentOS 7 with the Mate desktop
- Lubuntu 15.10
- Xubuntu 15.10
- Ubuntu Mate 15.04

On none of these can I run more than one instance of gnome-commander.

Is there a way to create a launcher to force a new instance of a program? I vaguely recall something in windows about "run in separate memory space" which could be applied to a shortcut.

Or any other suggestions???

TIA,

Ken

Don't know about the other programs but gnome-commander has the option of allowing multiple instances. link

Thanks norobro,

One of the down sides of CentOS - it is TOO stable and things do not keep up with the bleeding edge. gnomne-commander 1.2.8.17 which is current with CentOS 6.7 has no such option. The more recent distros are running gnome-commander 1.4.x which does. I would have never thought to look there. You have made my day

Thanks again,

Ken

p.s. As to the other applications - I guess I need to check them as well although they are of secondary importance.
