Uget will not start or appear

Using Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon.

When I click on Uget in the menu, nothing happens. When I type "uget" into the console, it says it does not recognize that command. In the Mint Software Manager, it only offers me the option of uninstalling Uget rather than installing it. Restarting the computer has no effect. It was fully working and in use in the same session that it later stopped working. I had "quit" using it, but later on it would not start up.

Questions please:

1) How can I find and back-up the list of my 20 or 30 queued downloads please? I would prefer not to lose them. There are also several partial downloads. If I can make a safe copy I could try uninstalling and then re-installing the software. Note that I cannot use Uget to make a back-up copy as I cannot get Uget started. I have not yet been able to find any Uget folders, but I do not know where they are.

2) Is there anything I should try to get it started, fix it?

Thanks.

Did you try to find out where the file is??? Run "dpkg -L uget", and find where that executable is. Type the full path in on the command line and see what happens. Did you try to reinstall that package??? "sudo apt-get --reinstall install uget"???

Seriously?? You didn't see the entries (bolded for emphasis), or even try to look at any of the files??? Why don't you try typing one of those in and see what happens.

Typing in "uget" will not work since the 2 packages installed are not named that, but "uget-gtk" and "uget-gtk-1to2".
You can make "uget" into a link that points to one of the real files, then you can just type that in.

I opened a console in the usr/bin/ folder and typed in "uget-gtk". After a long pause the response was:

Code:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
Then I typed in uget-gtk-1to2 and the reply was:

Code:
uget-gtk-1to2

Convert uGet for GTK+ data file from 1.10.x to 2.x

Usage:
  uget-gtk-1to2 [config directory]

e.g.
  uget-gtk-1to2 "/home/alpha/.config/uGet"

Ok, so you now know that the executable is "/usr/bin/uget-gtk". You now also know that it's having a problem running, so what have you tried thus far? Is your system up to date? Any outstanding patches?? Have you tried to just reinstall the uget program, as was advised previously???

I have been unable to find where the queued downloads are recorded. Once I find and make a copy of that then I will try re-installing.

Google says nothing about what the name of such a file is or where it might be.

Running a reinstall won't affect anything to do with your program settings...it just does what the name implies: it *RE-INSTALLS* the files. That's it. AGAIN: is your system up to date?? Have you applied any outstanding patches??? Have you actually DONE ANYTHING???

Hard to believe you can't find anything about where Cinnamon stores it's config files, because putting "linux mint cinnamon config settings" into Google pulls up a LOT of suggestions, including how to use dconf to back them up and restore them.

It would seem that uget needs to have its config files updated to use the new GTK version. At least that is what I think the output of uget-gtk-1to2 is saying.
So you need to run the command and point it to your uget config.
Code:
 uget-gtk-1to2 "/home/YOURUSERRNAME/.config/uGet

I've started playing TBOne Bingo. Here's the score card:

Reply within ten minutes - 1 point

Claim that he found the answer as the first entry of a Google search - 1 point

Use of capital letters - 1 point

Everything in capital letters - 2 points

Implication or statement of lack of intellect - 1 point.

So only a score of 2 out of a possible 5 this time.

I think I should add another point for extreme punctuation.

Grow up. You repeatedly ask questions with little/no effort on your part. Why do people have to look up commands for you to do simple things?? If *I* find it with a Google search, why can't you?? Is Google broken where you live??? Let's go down your list:
  • Found the answer as the first entry: Nope, didn't even have to look this time, because simple things like listing a package don't have to be looked up
  • Use of capital letters: Amazingly, yes...I do capitalize my sentences
  • Everything in capital letters: Sometimes...if someone (such as yourself) isn't seeming to read or can't understand what people tell them repeatedly
  • Implication or statement of lack of intellect: Seems clear in this case...people had to tell you each command, and you didn't seem to understand what they did. Just posted it here with your hand out.
You saw the file listing (after someone had to GIVE YOU the command), and just posted it. Then we had to tell you which files they were (didn't bother looking, apparently, or trying anything). Then we have to tell you AGAIN what to do, had to look up where the settings/configs were for you, and tell you THAT. First post told you what to run to find the file, and how to reinstall it. Had you looked up the commands you were GIVEN (because you apparently couldn't do that yourself), you would have seen what the reinstall option did. And with a TINY bit of effort on your part, could have found out where the configs were kept, and how to back them up/restore them.

All in all, you seem to need to be spoon-fed everything. Is there a reason you can't do anything for yourself, or learn from what you've been told previously??? Amazing that you find the time to post a snarky personal attack, but don't actually address your issue, or even acknowledge/thank ANYONE for trying to help you or even follow up, in this and most of your other threads. Some good examples:
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...rs-4175710281/
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...wn-4175701850/
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...er-4175706364/
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ck-4175705227/

This isn't a help desk; why do we have to keep looking things up for you???

I think this is digressing to a personal conflict and going down the rabbit hole.

Please guys, lets get back on topic and avoid the snarking.

@grumpyskeptic Please try things for yourself and see if we can move away from the 'help vampire' role that has been prevalent recently. None of us have a problem with providing help when needed. We do have a problem leading toddlers around by the hand when they make no effort to solve things for themselves.
