hello I got a type drive http://www.usbshop.com/lacait5013ex.html and I can see red light on the back of external type drive. This is my first time using a backup type drive before I usually do backup with DVD-R, so I don't know what is the commnad to do it. and I am not using any gui to do the backup
and How would i know which of the /dev/??? is for the type drive

thx

The tape drive will have a device id of /dev/st0. Assuming this is the only drive connected.
tar is one app to backup data to tape but there are lots of different backup applications on sourceforge and freshmeat.

Do you know the make / model of the SCSI controller?
Check the output of the console command lsmod to see if the tape drive module st is loading. If not try:
modprobe st

Is the module for the SCSI controller connected to the tape drive loading?
Look at the output of the dmesg commmad. Do you see anything that references the tape drive?
