Two software problems in Linux

1) What applications can be used to read newsgroups (like Outlook Express in MS Windows?). I thought that evolution can do this but it now seems to me that evolution does not have newsgroup function.

2) Does anyone know the software eREAD for Windows? Are there any software in Linux which can perform the same thing?

You can use Knode to read news. There are some eBook
readers ( what eRead does ) in Alpha or Beta state, I
don't know if there's a really good mature eBook reader
for Linux. But you can check out a few eBook related
projects here:

Good luck.

I now have another problem with Pan. It cannot display Asian fonts like Chinese fonts properly. I suppose that I can add the fonts or somehow solve the problem. Does any one know how to fix the problem?

Thank you very much!

Most distros ship with Asian fonts so search in their repos using your distros packaging tools.

I would recommend a program called klibido (heh) for binaries downloading. I use this for binaries, and knode for regular newsgroups.

I'd like to ask a little bit more...

1) What does it mean by binary download? How is it different from ascii download or others?

2) Are klibido and knode only supported by KDE desktop but not GNOME desktop?

It always seems to me that KDE software support are more comprehensive than GNOME. Is this the time for me to change to KDE?

You can use KDE apps in GNOME and vice versa.
