TSM-backup files with management class with the serialization dynamic/shared dynamic
Hi,
We are running into a tsm issue where the client is failing backups because some of the files are being chaged during the backup, due to which the client has been hung. None of the dsmc commands like "dsmc q sched" etc does not respond and command prompt just hangs.
After doing some googling, i found this infomrtaion "Tivoli Storage Manager can back up the file even if it is open and gets changed during the backup. This is only useful if the file will be usable even if it changes during backup. To back up these files, assign the files a management class with the serialization dynamic or shared dynamic."
But i am not sure how would i implement this, i searched the net but could find anything, so can anyone please guide me. PLease note i am not a tsm server admin.

If you're not the TSM administrator, you can't....tell the TSM administrator. If you don't have rights, you can't do it, just like in Linux. Also, you say the "client has been hung"...what kind of client? 'Hung' HOW? (whole system? DSM?), and it's likely it's not 'hung', but the dsm client is waiting for the job to finish/be killed. The TSM administrator can modify the retry count on open files, but it is VERY risky to back up files while open.
AGAIN, you need to contact IBM/Tivoli support, if you can't get it from your TSM administrator. However, anything IBM tells you will require you to have admin rights on the TSM software...which you say you don't have.
