Trying to reset multi boot system

I recently successfully loaded (with this site's help) Mandriva 2006 OCE version on my Dell Desktop running 2.0 MHz, 750 MB RAM and 2 - 40 GB Hard drives. The first hard drive contains Win XP and Mandriva 2006 with the second hard drive containing Linspire 5.0 and Suse 10.0. Before installing Mandriva I was able to boot into Win XP, Linspire or Suse with no problem now however I can only load either Mandriva or Win XP. I was told that I would have to use Lilo or Grub to again have access to Linspire and Suse. I am still new enough to need a full explaination on how to do this. The only 2 things I am sure of is that the prior setup used Grub and I also know that Linspire is setup on hdd1 and Suse is setup on hdd5. Can anyone provide the detailed explanation. Thanks for your patience. Jremsen

Okay - you need to figure out where the kernel is, and whether it is using an initial RAM disk to boot. To do so issue these commands as root user and report back to me the results:

(mount the harddrives somewhere e.g:
mount /dev/hdd1 /mnt/SUSE (You have to mkdir /mnt/SUSE if that doesn't exist))

cd /mnt/SUSE/boot
ls -l

(report the results back)

cd /mnt/SUSE/boot/grub
ls -l

(report these back)

and please attach your menu.lst file for GRUB. (found in /boot/grub)

Thanks, hopefully we can get this fixed for you soon.
