Trying to figure out what grub options to pass

ok I'm in some sort of chess game with a friend over a laptop... basically, he's root on it and i have nothing. My goal is to get around his blocks.

However, I can't seem to get this one sorted out. It APPEARS that he made the default init runlevel 0, so now when I boot, it instantly turns off. I've been given the hint that it's just a simple grub argument pass to fix it. I've tried appending runlevel numbers to the end of the kernel call, but to no avail. It almost seems to be a script running first that calls init 0, but interactive mode is disallowed.

Everytime I try to omit the initrd call in grub, I get a kernel panic... it says not syncing. The /boot partition is (hd0,0) and the / partition is (hd0,2).

Any ideas? More info needed? I just can't seem to find what arguments/options I'm supposed to pass to make it work.

First if he has the root privilege and you don't it may be hard for you to change or get help. It all may be in fun but we don't have any way of knowing.
