Trouble installing ATI Drivers on Fedora 8

Hey I have Fedora 8 on Ath64 3000+/nForce3-250/2GBDDR400 and my vcard is Radeon 9600XT. I went to ATI and got the drivers for linux 86 but I cant get them to install . I get this mesage: "gedit has not been able to detect the character coding" which I have gotten before.

Not sure how to remedy and also if the drivers would work anyway. Looking for some help as I cant find any topics regarding the 9600xt and Fedora 8.

Thanks

Just as well, you don't want to do this.

You install ATI drivers to fedora with yum.

But wait: why do you want to? 9600XT is supported with the free radeon driver.

Do you mean that there is already radeon graphics drivers on the Fedora 8 install disk?

I mainly wanted to get my screen picture sharper because text looks kinda blurry and compressed plus the gui is kinda slow here and there.

The radeon driver is already in the kernel that you installed... it should be entered into xorg.conf (look and see) or "ati" should be in it's place.

If your picture looks a bit squashed up there are several things you can do about it. Under preferences, there is an item called "appearance"... you can modify the fonts there. Under the "advanced" tab, you can change the rendered resolution too... these two things can improve appearance substantially.
