Tracking RPM installation location?

Sorry for the unusual title; I couldn't think of anything better to call it.

I've been told that I need to install some mysql-devel rpms on my system to get a copy of php5 to play nicely with the already-installed copy of mysql. (Box is running SuSE 9.3) I found the files I need online, and I've got them on the computer in question. However, I'm a bit nervous about the possibility of clobbering something else when I install these.

1. Will the rpm files automatically install to some predefined point, or is it possible to set the location they're installed to via the rpm command?

2. Is there some way to tell, other than actually installing the rpm files, where they'll end up installing to?

Thank you for your consideration.

hi there,

thats why its a rpm.it installs in predefined locations.

If u are so concerned about where the files will end up, u could just get the tarball and compile. With this u can specify the location of the files.
