I'm trying to figure out how to change the tomboy saving notation (.note) to (.txt). I'm fairly new to Linux so I may be wrong in thinking this is possible. However, if it is possible, a finger in the right direction would be appreciated.
Thanks
PS: if it isn't possible, maybe there is a way to change the name of the actual .note files in ~/.local/share/tomboy/ to something more readable. Right now they show up like this:
8e824ab7-ba6f-4018-b74d-1a5a245a60bd.note
Which is of course makes it difficult to determine which file I'm actually looking at.

Reason: typo
I think you're supposed to use Tomboy to open Tomboy notes. It's a while since I used it, it irritated me. I use gedit or mousepad to write myself notes.
You could try

First of all I just wanted to note that extensions are a DOS/Windows concept and are optional in Linux, so plain text files don't usually end in .txt.
I don't know the format of the files Tomboy Notes makes, but you can open the .note file in a plain text editor (such as gedit or kwrite) and copy and paste it here. Put it in

tags for better readability.
I am able to read the files it's the file names that are difficult. In reality I don't even need to change them from (.note) to (.txt) as you pointed out MTK. What I want to do is have control over the saved file name and where it is saved simply for easier access through the terminal. I've checked in the gconf-editor but the option does not seem to be available.
If I have to I will do this all manually or switch to Gedit, though if there is a way I really would prefer to continue using Tomboy.
So your problem is not that Tomboy's format isn't easily readable as plain text, but that Tomboy uses names that are composed of random characters and you would like to have control over them?
